What is a Certified Peer Support Specialist?
Someone with direct lived experience of mental health and/or substance use issues. "Direct lived experience" means that you are personally in recovery from a mental health and/or substance use issue that provides support to pull the person out of the hole. This certification is a state-level training: 40 hours online, 16 hours self-paced, and an exam. 16 hours of CEUs biannually are required to maintain the certification.
